Case Story

The impact of climate change in Bangladesh is an extremely crucial issue

Higher temperatures are worsening many types of disasters, including storms, heatwaves, floods, droughts, frequent wildfire, sea-level rise, and more.

The impact of climate change in Bangladesh is an extremely crucial issue and Bangladesh ranked sixth on the Global Climate Risk Index 2018 indicating that it will bear the worst impact of climate change. We have already been witnessing the impacts of climate change. In April, the highest temperature in the last 26 years was recorded as 40.6° Celsius in Dhaka and 41.3°Celsius in Rajshahi. It is evident that the seasonal patterns have changed. Summers are warmer than usual, monsoon is irregular as in untimely heavy rainfall is causing a flash flood in low lands. All these changes have a grave impact on people’s life and livelihood. There is a scarcity of safe drinking water due to the intrusion of saline water in coastal areas. A prolonged cold spell has been affecting the seasonal crops.
